Deep Energy Reductions

In the interest of drastically reducing residential energy consumption and achieving radical reductions in greenhouse gas emissions the Rural Action Energy Committee is seeking existing home owners in the Appalachian Ohio region to implement deep energy reduction retrofits to their homes.

Have you been thinking about adding to or renovating your existing home? Have you been thinking about upgrading the energy performance or thermal comfort of your home? If so we would like to talk with you about joining our coalition to lead the region in demonstrating radical energy reductions while improving the comfort and performance of your home and reducing associated green house gases.

We are looking to enable people in the 32 county Appalachian Ohio region who don't qualify for the Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP) provided by the Ohio Department of Development. For those that do the program recently changed it’s guidelines for qualification to include incomes up to 200% of poverty level. To learn more about that program and whether you qualify contact the Ohio Department of Development or your local Community Action Agency. http://development.ohio.gov/cdd/ocs/HWAP_LocateProviders.htm

The Rural Action Energy Committee would like to support individuals and families who fall outside of the income qualifications for HWAP services. We’re looking to stimulate a market and engage people who don't have the cash up front to make improvements that would save them money.

We aspire to provide a means for homeowners first to afford the upfront costs of making energy efficiency and durable building upgrades and let the savings from these upgrades pay for themselves. We see ourselves as catalysts to get a system started. We are identifying our collaborators and stakeholders - the entities who can bring this vision into being - banks, training centers, building trade organizations, policy makers, individuals, and utilities. Initially this is an outreach effort.

The plan is to start with existing homes and once that's in place we can work to address commercial buildings, factories and institutions.

Ultimately we will identify and catalyze a market, the entrepreneurs and green collar workers to serve that market and the funding mechanisms to power that market. This market includes rating systems to provide structure and metrics for upgrades that save energy, money and improve the overall performance and environmental health of buildings and the people who use them.

If you would like to volunteer to advance any of these efforts or if you are interested in participating as a home owner please contact us:
