Letter
from our Board President
As I near the end of my two-year term as Rural Action Board President, I'd
like to thank all those who work tirelessly and effectively to implement
the vision and mission of Rural Action. These include staff, VISTAs, community
volunteers and members and the entire hoard. It has been a source of joy
and pride for me to meet and work with many of you and I thank you sincerely
for all you have done and are doing to accomplish the goals of this fine
organization. I give special thanks for Carol Kuhre, Rural Action's Executive
Director, without whose vision, energy and leadership Rural Action would
not he where it is today.
I
have taken special pride in the work of Sustainable Environments
Initiative's work in the Federal, Monday, and Sunday Creek watersheds.
I salute the Sustainable
Communities' Arts & Heritage Program's Mural Corridor Project and the Environmental
Learning Program. I am deeply thankful to The Community & School Connection
for their work to secure equity and justice in the funding of Ohio schools.
The work of Sustainable Economies, both in the forest and on the farm, is helping
landowners develop income from their land while maintaining the health of our
soils and forests. I learned a great deal as I participated in the work that
led to Rural Action's management and ownership of National Center for the Preservation
of Medicinal Herbs. I salute all who have worked tirelessly on this effort.
Thanks again to all who have made my last two years a time of personal growth,
deepening friendships, and greater awareness of the challenges and opportunities
facing Appalachian Ohio.
Gifford B. Doxsee
Rural Action Board President
