From the Board President
On behalf of
the Rural Action Board and staff, I want to take this opportunity
to thank all of you for your generous contributions over the years.
Rural Action relies on three sources of community support: memberships,
donations and the endowment fund.
Your memberships fill two critical needs for our organization. First,
as you know, Rural Action relies on grants from private foundations
and government agencies to fund our work. The funding agencies use
membership numbers as a measure of public support. This is an important
criterion used to decide which programs will be funded. Second, the
grant funding we receive is restricted to specific projects. This
means that it has often been a stretch to find the funds to fix a
leaky faucet or replace worn-out office equipment. Your membership
contributions help to fill this gap.
Last year, we were fortunate enough to receive a matching challenge
donation of $50,000. We successfully met that challenge, and raised
more than $100,000 for the organization. We have been given this opportunity
again for 2005, and we are confident that we can repeat our success.
These funds augment our membership contributions and help to sustain
other support functions that are not provided for in project grants.
The Rural Action Endowment Fund is a key component of our long-term
financial strategy. As this fund reaches a sustainable level, we will
be able to use some of the fund’s interest to supplement other
sources of income. This fund continues to grow and we hope that we
will reach our target of $1,000,000 in the near future.
As we work towards our goal of increasing financial security I know
that we can count on your continued generosity and support.
Thanks again,
H. Theodore King
Board President
